5 tips how to distinguish honest sellers when buying vintage Vespa
Riding a vintage Vespa is (almost) everyone’s dream. At least we tend to think so 🙂 Sun, wind, summer, your friends, loved ones and a beauty scooter together! Can you beat that? Unfortunately, sometimes it might be turned into a nightmare especially when owning a scooter of terrible quality purchased from a seller that stopped communicating the minute you made the payment! So how to avoid pitfalls when acquiring your dream scooter?
Sending a payment to someone you never met personally is not a piece of cake. Especially when it comes to more expensive products like old scooters and the seller is 8 time zones away with a delivery time running into almost 2 months. What to do to filter out the bad ones? Google ranking is not the best way to do so! The higher the site in search engine does not automatically equal more trusted seller!
In most cases, the website is the only way of reaching the seller. Be sure to check multiple things – how often is it updated? Do they use their own pictures or generic ones bought from online database and watermarked? What type of info do they provide? Do they have a phone number you can call? Is there something that raises doubts? Chances are, that if the answers to the above questions are not persuasive, there will be a problem with the seller. Always look for the most information you can get and if it is not there ask, ask, ask. It does not cost you anything and can save you a lot of money and invaluable time.
One of the best ways to tell the seller legit is the news section and the blog. That way you can see that they are engaged and still in business. Moreover, it tells the potential customers that they have ‘skin in it’ and work hard to get their message across. I am not saying that only businesses with blogs or news sections are only legitimate businesses, but they definitely show they care. And what else should the business be about? Caring for the needs of others.
Does the seller have an email address and phone number on their website? How long does it take to receive a response from them? Normal business practice is to respond within one business day. Does the seller get back to you later on? From our experience
4. Registered dealer
Is the dealer registered with local authorities? Do they clearly state it on the website? It is much more difficult to deal with the seller if they are not a registered dealer because then they are a) either selling illegally or b) not required to register. In both cases, your chances to get something back from them in case anything goes wrong are slim. Always look for registered dealers that were approved to the business by the local authority.
5. Feedback around the web
Check for experience of other users that they have had with the company. However, be careful, since its usually great place for competitors to bash each other’s businesses or write their own positive reviews. The other users’ comments can sometime lead to the seller you would otherwise not buy anything.
Why we do it?
My business partner and me have started YourVespa.net because we love vintage Vespa scooters. Unfortunately, after some initial research, we were deceived by one rogue seller pretending to be selling genuine thing, but sold us vehicle with lot of issues we were unable to fix. Year later we launched yourvespa.net because we felt that these legendary scooters deserve better representation than what they were getting at the time (and still are). We work closely with a team of mechanics with 18+ years of experience and pride ourselves in top quality restorations that bring joy to many people around the world.
BETTER RESTORATION PROCESS, BETTER PARTS & NEW VINTAGE VESPA SCOOTERS
May and June were our busiest months in business so far. Not only we sold historic number of scooters, we have also improved engines on the scooters we offer and made the overall quality of parts far better. And all of that happened without raising the prices for our customers. All of this proved us right since the feedback we get from you was amazing. The customization was improved to the last detail what persuaded many people to get the vintage Vespa exactly according to their preferences.
July is a perfect time to get your restored vintage beauty. Whether you are looking for a vehicle to commute shorter distances or a fun thing to ride to the beach, we have exactly that. We have new arrivals in our inventory that you can check HERE. Should you be looking for rare scooters, just contact us and we will be happy to help you find a scooter you dream about.
In addition, we have started to offer restorations of 50cc model Vespa 50S (model V5SA1T) to allow the customers without motorcycle license to be able to enjoy the perfect vintage ride. The quality of the scooters’ restoration is very high and we are proud to offer it to you, our customers.
